21 FEBRUARY 2018 – 1 Peter 5:6-7 (ESV)

Scripture

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Reflection

Earlier Peter has written that Christians should do “good deeds” or acts of kindness which benefit humanity so that those who are outside of the Christian community might glorify God. Here, the focus is on the things we can do within the Church which glorify God. The emphasis on glorifying God is to bring God in the center of all things, especially the kinds of things he gives us to do to serve his people and to build them up. Things like speaking and serving, administrating, giving, leading, healing, teaching and waiting on tables; when we serve each other we are worshiping God. “So whether you eat or drink, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” 1 Corinthians 10:31 (Ps. Dale).

Prayer

Take a moment to pray for one person on your mind. Pray for your relationship with them; for their situation; for God to be near to them.
